Keeping Your Child’s Teeth Healthy Through Out Their Life
Dental Cleanings and Exams For Kids
It’s really important for your child to get routine exams and professional cleanings in order for them to have the best oral health possible. That’s why it is our priority here in our office to emphasize preventative care so that we can avoid extensive dental treatment with your child. The foundation for good oral health always begins in the earliest stages of your child’s life and will last them for a lifetime.
Your child may only have just a few teeth, however dental exams can still be very beneficial to them. It is recommended that your child visit our office before their first birthday. This will provide an early opportunity for you and your child to establish a good relationship with the dentist. It will also allow the dentist to examine your child and see if there any early concerns with your child’s oral health. Early intervention can say you time and money in the dental office.
After your first initial appointment, your child will need to return every six months for follow-up visits and additional cleanings. When we are able to examine your child on a regular basis, it’s much easier for us to spot signs of trouble to indicate that some sort of treatment may be needed.
These routine visits most likely will involve a thorough exam and a cleaning. Here’s what your child can expect from each of those activities:
Dental Cleanings For Kids
Cleanings are done and completed by one of our dental hygienist. These hygienist are very experienced at working with children. They use a light touch to remove plaque or tartar that has accumulated on your child’s teeth or the gumline to reduce the presence of cavity-causing oral bacteria. If your child has some hesitation or anxiety about getting a cleaning, then we recommend sedation to help your child relax and be at ease while in the office.
When your child comes in for a dental exam, one of our doctors will thoroughly examine your child’s teeth and gums. They will look for signs of two decay or any other issue they may see as being problematic and needs intervention right away. We will also go over the proper home oral hygiene routine as a part of the dental exam.
Because we specialize in working with and treating children, our dentist and hygienist use age-appropriate techniques and terminology when providing care to your kids. We also try to minimize any discomfort to avoid provoking anxiety and stress with our patients.
When your child comes into our office for a regular checkup or cleaning, it helps let him or her know that going to the dentist doesn’t have to be very scary. It also helps your child to develop lifelong patterns of semiannual dental visits that will help them have great oral health for their entire lives.
If your child hasn’t been to the dentist and is at or past the one year mark, they give us a call today. We will be glad to see your child and help you develop good oral health habits with them that will last them their entire lives.
