Dental Sealants and Varnishes For Cavity Prevention
Don’t let cavities and decay get an early start in your child’s mouth. It can be prevented.
Dental Sealants For Prevention of Decay
If you are looking for ways to prevent cavities in your child’s teeth, then you really need to consider dental sealants or varnishes as an option. Brushing and flossing are always good, but adding this treatment option to your fight with decay can save you time and money in the dental office later.
The Purpose of Dental Sealants
A dental sealant is the front line of defense in preventing harmful bacteria and decay from growing the grooves of your child’s teeth. It minimizes the odds of your child developing great and more serious problems in the future.
Dental sealants are made from a thin plastic coating that is either white or clear in color. One of our hygienist will paint the sealant into the grooves of the teeth to help form a barrier that stops bacteria and food particles from getting in the tiny grooves of your child’s teeth where most decay begins.
How Long Does It Take and Is It Painless?
The treatment is quick, easy and painless. There are no shots or drilling and no need to remove any of the tooth’s structure. The teeth are cleaned and a gel is applied to the surface of the tooth and then washed off. After that, our hygienist will paint the sealant on to the tooth. We then take a bright curing light to help harden the sealant which takes about 1 minute.
As parents, we always want to do what we can to prevent our children from having as many problems as we can. We don’t want them to experience or have pain at all.
One way you can do that is by having dental sealants applied to your child’s teeth. This will help you have peace of mind and will keep them from unnecessary trips to the dentist for cavities.
