Before teeth even erupt, fluoride helps make a baby's tooth enamel stronger and more resistant to cavities. After they emerge, topical applications of fluoride help remineralize or rebuild weakened enamel and even reverse tooth decay before it becomes noticeable.

However, there needs to be a balance in the amount of fluoride they are getting; sometimes, our children are exposed to more fluoride than we think and sometimes less.
